For days, when I’m not quite feeling myself, it is very important to take a step back, and realize what’s important. You and your happiness towards your life. I try and go to the places that make me happy, do the things that bring me joy, and through that I begin to find myself again. Here is my wellness routine for off days when I need to realign my view and reconnect with myself. Keep reading for how to create your perfect “Wellness Day.”
Morning Wellness Day Routine
Any wellness day, you need to treat yourself with 8-9 hours of sleep at night. You want to enjoy your day, and not worry about feeling tired. After I achieve the 8 hour sleep goal, I wake up, and the first thing I do, is drink a glass of water. Apparently, drinking water right when you wake up starts your metabolism, and ‘wakes up’ your internal organs. After I’ve done my morning routine and skincare, I like to use the Saje Natural Wellness Quick Study, Mental Alertness Mist. I spray it about four to fives times above my head and breath it in. The spray is meant to help with mental focus, concentration, and an energy boost. I have my lowest energy in the morning as I am not a morning person, and the spray gives an invigorating rush that keeps me from feeling sleepy.
Once I’ve been awake for a while, I like to lightly stretch or practice Gentle or Yin Yoga, and sometimes meditate to begin my day. My favourite stretches to do are based primarily around warming up for dance but, I love anything that stretches out my hamstrings and hip flexors. My favourite yoga poses to hold are the classic cobra, child’s pose, pigeon standing tree and happy baby. I meditate by sitting on the floor, closing my eyes and focusing on my breath. Even if it’s just for five minutes meditation is one of the most calming things you can do for yourself.
After stretching, yoga and/or meditating I love to journal. Writing is a great way to express how you’re feeling and get everything out on paper. It also can be a great way to challenge yourself and expand your mind.
When it is time to unwind I have a relaxing shower. I recently tried this trick from Lee From America where you attach eucalyptus to the shower head. I don’t take baths as I don’t find them to be relaxing.
