I never use anything comedogenic on my skin because I have experienced breakouts since I was 14. Ever since I had seen my first pimple appear on my face I have been conscious of what products I use in my nighttime skincare routine. I use green beauty products not only because I don’t want acne but, because I don’t want my skin (your largest organ) to absorb the chemicals and toxins found in most skincare products in the drugstore.
Before I tell you what products I use on my skin I am going to explain the type of skin I have. If you have a similar skin type these products may work for you. I have oily skin that is prone to breakouts and clogged pores. I mainly get blackheads and whiteheads. I have never had bad acne just a lot of clogged pores or un-inflamed acne. I think it is because I have such oily skin. The products I use help unclog my pores and gently cleanse away dirt and oil.
The Nighttime Skincare Routine:
The first step in my nighttime skincare routine is cleansing. I use a very gentle cleanser because I don’t want my skin to be red and irritated. I use the Spectro Gel Cleanser for Combination skin with my Foreo Luna Mini.
The second step in the routine is exfoliation. I rotate exfoliators but, some of my favourites are Derma-e Purifying Daily Detox Scrub, Clari-Sea Rapid Detox Charcoal Exfoliant and wildcraft buff face and body scrub.
After the shower I use the Simple Micellar Water as a toner on a cotton pad and wipe it all over my face and neck to gently cleanse. The product dissolves anything the cleanser may have missed.
An Optional step I do once or twice a week is a face mask. Some of my favourites are GlamGlow Super Mud Clearing Treatment, RDevine Skincare Sacred Botanicals: Hibiscus Facial Mask, and Whistler Naturals Blueberry and Bamboo Soothing Facial Polish (applied as a mask and then rub off).
The fourth step in the routine is to apply a treatment to help combat any bacteria that forms throughout the day from causing acne. I use the Lush Grease Lightning aloe and tea tree based gel. It is marketed as a spot treatment for pimples. However, I use it all over to help keep acne causing bacteria at bay.
The last step is moisturizing. Even though I have oily skin believe it or not it becomes more oily if I do not moisturize. Applying moisturizer is the most important step in anyone’s skincare routine. I use the Page Ashbury Facial Moisturizer with Neroli and Jasmine.
