I never use anything comedogenic on my skin because I have experienced breakouts since I was 14. Ever since I had seen my first pimple appear on my face I have been conscious of what products I use in my skincare routine. I use green beauty products not only because I don’t want acne but, because I don’t want my skin (your largest organ) to absorb the chemicals and toxins found in most skincare products in the drugstore.
Before I tell you what products I use on my skin I am going to explain the type of skin I have. If you have a similar skin type these products may work for you. I have oily skin that is prone to breakouts and clogged pores. I mainly get blackheads and whiteheads. I have never had bad acne just a lot of clogged pores or un-inflamed acne. I think it is because I have such oily skin. The products I use help unclog my pores and gently cleanse away dirt and oil. I don’t want to scrub away and aggravate my skin.
The Skincare Routine:
The first step in my morning skincare routine is cleansing. I use a very gentle cleanser because I don’t want my skin to be red and irritated. I use the Simple Micellar Water on a cotton pad and wipe it all over my face and neck to gently cleanse. The product dissolves all the oil and my face feels very clean but, never tight and dry.
The second step in the routine is apply a treatment to help combat any bacteria that forms throughout the day from causing acne. I use the Lush Grease Lightning aloe and tea tree based gel. It is marketed as a spot treatment for pimples. However, I use it all over to help keep acne causing bacteria at bay.
The third step is moisturizing. Even though I have oily skin believe it or not it becomes more oily if I do not moisturize. Applying moisturizer is the most important step in anyone’s skincare routine. I use the Page Ashbury Facial Moisturizer with Neroli and Jasmine.
The fourth step is applying sunscreen, no matter the season. You always have to protect your skin from not only the sun all year round but, also from the environment. I recently learned after getting a facial last year that pollution in the air can cause wrinkles or even congest your skin by clogging your pores. I realized a dramatic decrease in blackheads by wearing sunscreen everyday in the fall in Toronto. I use the Suntegrity Sunscreen and Primer. If you live in the United States you can purchase from their website but, they do not ship to Canada. If you live in Canada, like me I have only been able to find it on Clementine Fields and 889 Yoga’s Shop Online.
After my skincare routine is complete I move on to applying a minimal amount of makeup and the rest of my morning routine.
