JAMES STREET SPOTLIGHT: THE PALE BLUE DOT
Plus, Q+A with owner Mary Luciani
This week our James Street spotlight showcases, The Pale Blue Dot, the “one stop shop for sustainable living.” Each product is sourced ethically, with love and wellness for not only the planet but yourself.
If you’re interested in a zero-waste lifestyle; The Pale Blue Dot is the place to be. Grab all your kitchen and bathroom needs without the chemicals and waste; cotton produce bags, beeswax food wraps, wooden utensils, natural soaps + oils and, so much more. As well, treat yourself to the 100% linen clothing, fair trade dresses, handmade accessories and vegan leather purses!
We had the privilege off interviewing The Pale Blue Dot’s owner; Mary Luciani
Why did you start The Pale Blue Dot?
I worked at Greystone antique furniture store, when it closed I wanted to invest in my own zero-waste store. As well, I want to create a platform for spreading sustainability; a place to learn and grow a community of like minded people.
What can you find in store?
Every single thing sold in the store leaves no trace of waste; toothbrushes, furniture, hairbrushes, and cleaning supplies. All the brands are people who align with our values and care about the impact they are making.
What was the moment you realized you had to start changing your habits to help the planet?
I discovered Lauren Singers blog (Trash is for Tossers) and it flipped the switch on what I was thinking. I also love traveling so I get to see how special the world is and what we are doing to it.
How successful has The Pale Blue Dot been?
My favourite thing is when people come into the store and have no idea about anything and want to educate themselves and learn. Influencing just one person can make such a difference spreading into magic, stuff happens.
Join Mary and The Pale Blue Dot Team for monthly events and clothing swaps!
