You may have seen Knots and Pipes famous statement tassel earring at your local James Street shop or on Instagram, today we find out a little more about this locally made jewelry. Knots and Pipe is created by Heather Sheppard, based in Hamilton, the accessories are made out recyclable material, perfectly ethically made with minimalistic style.
We had the privilege of asking Heather a few questions:
Tell us about yourself/What Inspired you to create Knots and Pipes?
I started creating it for myself using brass and copper and then selling it at my parents store in Norfolk county. It was a side-hustle as I was working my full-time government job. I moved to Hamilton and started making statement earrings.
What is your favourite piece you’ve designed?
Break out costume jewelry, one of a kind teardrop shaped white bead earrings that were from a beaded 70’s necklace.
Where do you find inspiration when designing new items?
-Steel city surplus
-Oak and Fort
-Canadian made quality
What is the good cause you promote through your business?
My mantra is slow fashion, buying less, season less but, still trend appropriate to fit every season. Jewellery that can be fixed and cleaned, showing care for your items.
Also, every online retailer purchase = a donation to living positive organization (grass roots learn skills) empowering women. Jewellery is also affordable and easily accessible.
How are you planning on growing Knots and Pipes while still being a part of the slow fashion movement?
By seeking female business grants, business courses, hiring someone ethically. Growing my business while remaining authentic, consumers are attracted to authenticity, making your brand more attractive in the long run.
