Daily self-care is a very talked about thing right now, especially on social media. It may seem like a fad to some people but, self-care is something that has been happening for a long time it just was never labelled. Simple things like giving yourself me time or going on a walk can be acts of self-care. For me the most important thing about self-care is that we must take care of ourselves before beginning to take care of others.
The three simple acts of daily self-care are:
#1 | Sleep
Sleep is the ultimate foundation of everyday life and we don’t focus on it enough. If you don’t get enough sleep or sleep at the right times you can feel off the entire day. If we don’t sleep enough we can get sick, drain ourselves and not be our best selves at work or school. I’ve learned that between the hours of 11pm and 1am you get the most restful amount of sleep. This proves that going to bed early can be beneficially. I’m not a morning person but, I do feel better and more productive when I go to bed early and wake up early.
#2 | Digital Detox
Technology is all around us and giving your mind a break from the world of social media can be a great thing. Also, technology can be straining to your eyes. It’s good to take a break from looking at a screen especially if that’s what you do all day at work or school. Remember to take a break from your phone or laptop and go into nature or just go outside and reconnect with yourself, friends or family.
#3 | Do one thing that you love
For me it’s dance, yoga, walking and writing. All four of these things act as a kind of therapy or meditation. Whether it’s in the morning or before you go to bed you need to do one thing you love every day because your happiness is a priority.
We welcome you to share your thoughts about daily self-care in the comments below. We would love to start a conversation with you!
